One of the best things about blogging about food is that there are opportunities to learn around every corner.  It doesn’t always have to be about food, it can also give you an experience to learn a little bit about yourself by meeting legends in the industry. On Tuesday, May 8, 2018, I was invited to join Olives from Spain  for an intimate reception hosted by…..wait for it….José Andrés!!!!!! “Named one of Time’s “100 Most Influential People,” awarded “Outstanding Chef” and “Humanitarian of the Year” by the James Beard Foundation, José Andrés is an internationally-recognized culinary innovator, author, educator, television personality, humanitarian and chef/owner of ThinkFoodGroup.” ThereRead More →

Chicago Northwest Restaurant Week preview continues today and if you read my Monday post on Birch River Grill, you will know that I’m trying to give an Olympic Spin to this year’s event.  (Remember to check out the menus and make some reservations during February 23-March 4 Click here for participating restaurants.) Speaking of spin, throughout the Winter Olympics there isn’t a sport that is more popular than figure skating.  I thought of this a lot during my preview week after I went to Cooper’s Hawk Winery ( 798 W Algonquin Rd, Arlington Heights, IL).  From the minute you walk into the restaurant, you areRead More →

Are you ready?  Do feel like your own personal torch is lit and you are running gleefully as the world watches?  Is this the one event you’ve been waiting for all winter?  No, I’m not talking about the 2018 Olympics…I’m talking about Chicago Northwest Restaurant Week coming up on February 23-March 4.  (I’m giving you a heads up early this year so you can get your reservations in and peruse the menus at your leisure.) To me Chicago Northwest Restaurant Week is a lot like the Olympics….it is a huge event and there is a lot to cover.  (If you’ve never heard of a RestaurantRead More →

Can you believe it is already the end of October?  It seems like it was just yesterday that I was in Schaumburg, Illinois to help you find some new favorite restaurants during the Meet Chicago Northwest Restaurant week.  (Mark your calendar for February 23, 2018-March 4, 2018 and start your planning for next year’s event!) I had so much fun that we (the great folks at Meet Chicago Northwest and myself) wanted to share a few more restaurants this week. With the weather starting to chill off, what is the first thing you do?  (Besides curse the weatherman).  If you are like me, I giveRead More →

If you have been a long time reader of Felt Like a Foodie, you know this past weekend (September 23-24, 2017) was the event that a lot of us live for every year.  Chicago Gourmet, created by the Illinois Restaurant Association 10 years ago, showcases the very best of  Chicago’s culinary world in the beautiful setting of Millenium Park.  Having been recnently named the Restaurant City of the Year by sponsor Bon Appétit magazine, I knew this was going to be a delicious weekend. I not only learned where I want to eat this next year but how I may want to incorporate some of theRead More →

WARNING: I AM ABOUT TO MAKE YOU REALLY HUNGRY. DO NOT STOP. GO DIRECTLY TO IMPERIAL LAMIAN TO SATISFY YOUR HUNGER. I’m not sure of the exact timeframe but last year I started stalking a restaurant before it even opened. I started noticing their posts on social media and each one was better than the last. They would show these pictures and videos that just made my mouth water and my stomach grumble with hunger. I anxiously awaited their opening and am happy to say I FINALLY got myself to the city last week to try Imperial Lamian (6 W Hubbard St., Chicago, IL) TheRead More →

Oysters. People seem to love them or hate them. I wasn’t always one of the people who loved oysters. Their looks intimidated me. They smelled like the ocean. And I was seriously concerned that I was going to choke on a pearl. (I also can admit that I’m not always very bright.) I tried my first oyster about 5 years ago and I finally understood why there was so much fuss made about them. The love of them comes from the excitement of a beautiful tray placed in front of you. The oysters are usually nested in a bed of ice and have tasty accoutermentsRead More →

Yesterday night we blew into Chicago to enjoy the Ninth Annual CHILL event presented by Luxe Home in the Merchandise Mart. (For those of you who don’t live in Midwest, we were having 30-40 mile wind gusts so we literally blew into the city!) This was my fifth year enjoying the event that benefits The Lynn Sage Foundation, Respiratory Health Association and Saturday Place and I must say this was year was one of the best. (Okay, I say that every year but that means it gets better and better!) Each boutique we walked into seemed like a new adventure. There were mariachi bands, fantasticRead More →
