DING-DONG!  Trick or Treat?  DING DONG!  Trick or Treat?  DING DONG!  Trick or Treat?  This is the sound of my what my house will sound like on Monday night.  We are fortunate to live in a neighborhood full of darling trick or treaters.  (Okay, not all of them are darling.  Example:  Two “hoochie” girls who showed up last year in less clothes than I wore on my wedding night!) My husband and I love handing out candy every year.  We don’t do it like most houses.   We make the kids answer a question about something relevant to their grade or current events.  (This year IRead More →

A foodie recipe for making an easy Thanksgiving Pumpkin cheesecake dessert.

Forgive me Readers, for I have sinned.  It has been one year since I made a graham cracker crust from scratch.  I’ve become dependant on the easy crusts you can buy the in the baking section.  Well, this weekend I was punished for my transgression for I not only didn’t go for homemade, I went cheap! I was preparing for company and wanted to prepare a yummy but simple seasonal dessert.  Immediately, I thought of pumpkin cheesecake.  The store I shopped at didn’t have my usual “cheater” crust so I just bought the one that they had on the shelf and didn’t give it secondRead More →

Half-time snack, jalepeno poppers, football

Are you ready for some football?  (Um, not really.) Whether you like college football or are a fan of the NFL this is probably one of your favorite times of year.  If you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m not the biggest sports fan. I have nothing against football, personally, I just don’t get it.  When my husband is watching it, I drive him absolutely nuts with questions.  He’ll shout at the television and I’ll inquire about the referee’s call.  He’ll tell me some term like “offside’s” or “pass interference” and then I am lost. I mean the first time he screamed about a “deadRead More →

I get a fair amount of emails from people making “requests.” Some of them are even about food!  (You know who you are!)  I make a list of people’s interests and hope eventually I can make everyone happy.  (Once again, I am ONLY speaking about food-related happiness.) A couple of week’s ago, I received a request from a friend of my studly brother-in-law.  (Seriously, Shaggy is quite studly!)  His friend, Kevin, asked if I would be doing any white chili recipes to help welcome in the cooler weather. I was a bit frazzled at this request because the picky girl in me has never beenRead More →

Have you ever experienced being part of a wave in Soldier’s Field during a Bears game?  How about watching the waves on Lake Michigan crash upon the shore?  What about dining on a fantastic lunch at WAVE restaurant on Lake Shore Drive? All three events have one thing in common; once you experience it you will want to do it over and over again. Wait…you are not familiar with WAVE at the W in Chicago?  Let me tell you about my foodie fun day this week. WAVE is a hip-modern restaurant located in the W Hotel on Lake Shore Drive.  I normally would have beenRead More →

For whatever reason, I’ve had a really hard time focusing my thoughts today.  Actually, to say I’ve had thoughts is an exaggeration; my mind has been blank.  I just feel so dull. Dull, you say?  Yep, like I have no personality.  Whoops, there I go again, living the life of a Brady Bunch character.  (Cue Intro Music) In this case, I’m Peter Brady from Season 3.  (The fact that I know it is from Season 3 is not pathetic, is it?) One of the top Brady lines ever came from the episode called “Personality Kid.”  Peter is called “dull” at a party and at his father’sRead More →

WARNING:  THE FOLLOWING BLOG CONTAINS A WORD THAT MAY BE OFFENSIVE TO SOME OF THE READERS, IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED, PLEASE CLOSE YOUR EYES AS YOU READ THIS POST. Casserole.  Yep, I said it and I’m not even going to wash my mouth out with soap.  I don’t know why but the thought of a casserole has always made me shudder. It is probably a battle scar from my picky eater days.  If it is possible, I suffer from post traumatic stress disorder from having to eat foods I didn’t like.  It had nothing to do with the preparation; it had to do withRead More →

I love when the season changes from summer to fall.  The colors of the trees outside are my favorite shades of orange, yellow, brown and red.  The air has just enough chill to warrant a coat but you don’t NEED one.  And the comfort food cravings make it easy to plan every meal. The only thing I don’t like about this time of year is the fact that I always catch a head cold!  I’ve had a serious case of the sniffles for the last week and I am just miserable.  If I typed liked I talked right now it would go something like this….IRead More →
