Do you ever look at a menu’s specials of the day and want to scream?  I don’t mean “literally” scream, more of a “you’ve got to be kidding me” scream.  I’m hoping you say yes or I might need to start looking at anger management.  (I’d trade spaghetti sauce for some good therapy.) I bring this up because I noticed the other day that it took all my self-control to not comment online to a certain restaurant’s “specials.”  They list the same ones almost EVERY week online and in the restaurant!!  At first, I thought I saw some variance…yep…the date changed.  And then I thoughtRead More →

I was standing in line at the grocery store the other day and an attractive man was standing beside me tapping at his wrist.  (Please note: He was attractive but no where near as cute as my husband!) I thought it was an indication that he was in a hurry and offered to let him in front of me in line. He smiled and said he wasn’t in a rush, he was just seeing how many steps he had taken today.  He then told me 11,000. I kind of shrugged, I don’t know if that is good or not. I got all flushed and embarrassed, whatRead More →

I am a VERY methodical person. I like to plan and be organized. I feel accomplished just by having a plan and sticking to it. The problem is that they often go wonky. An example would be Halloween this year. My plan was to get some chili on the stove early, volunteer at the elementary school for the party and pass out treats in the evening. BUT as we know the best laid schemes of mice and men often go askew. (Did you know this saying originated from the poem “To a Mouse” by Robert Burns? It is a nice story about a guy whoRead More →

Brrrrr!!!!  If you don’t live in the Midwest, I consider you lucky right now.  The last two days have been filled with incredible amounts of snow and wickedly low temperatures. It is so cold… cold is it…it is so cold that we are eating with plastic silverware so that our forks won’t stick to our tongues. Our area of NW Indiana is known for being part of the Snowbelt and we lived up to that name last night.  It has been bad enough that a state of emergency has been declared and we are being asked to stay off the roads.  (I couldn’t even seeRead More →

If you live in the Midwest, there is one thing you are talking about right now…the weather.  I don’t know why it surprises us every year because the same thing happens EVERY year. Winter comes.  We all say to each other what a mild winter it has been so far.  We talk of how it feels like spring and how this is the best winter ever.  Next thing you know…WHAMMO!!  We get socked with bitter cold and snow.  (This is where I would say we jinxed ourselves if I believed in such things.) The next thing that always happens is we start talking about theRead More →

Neighbors.  Love them or hate them, they are part of your life.  I am VERY fortunate to be surrounded by one of the best groups of neighbors a gal could ever ask for.  (This is the part that I am buttering them up because I am posting one of their recipes.) We are a multifaceted group brought together by one single decision we all made and that was to live on this particular block.  (Okay, my husband grew up here so I wasn’t a huge part of the decision process but I do really like where we landed.) Last year, the neighbors  (only the reallyRead More →
