Happy Friday.  It is hard to believe it was just last week that I went to Schaumburg, IL to try some new favorite restaurants as part of a super-preview of Meet Chicago Northwest Restaurant week. (Check back on their website soon to see the participating restaurants.)  I’ll remind you again that the dates are February 23, 2018-March 4, 2018 so you can make sure you plan a trip to the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago. The final restaurant for this Foodie Fun Day was Chicago Prime Italian (1370 Bank Drive, Schaumburg, IL).  If you are thinking the name is awfully familiar to my last post, it isn’tRead More →

My favorite week of the year is finally here….it is time for Chicago Gourmet!!!!  For those of you who are new readers, Chicago Gourmet is an annual food event set in Millennium Park.  To call it a “food event” is an injustice, it is a weekend filled with celebrity chefs, cooking demonstrations, book signings, lots of wine/spirit tastings and, of course, there is the food from Chicago’s best restaurants.  (And yes, I’ll take plenty of notes for those of you who write asking for recommendations.) Every year I’ve gone, the event has gotten better and better and I can only imagine what they have plannedRead More →

When you hear the words “inside-out”, what do you think of? Do you think of the film where every emotion has a character?  (If you haven’t seen the movie, it is cute.) Do you think about accidently wearing a piece of clothes the wrong way?  (I went to the beach last week and put my t-shirt inside out when I left…went to lunch like that…and then errands….or at least that is the story I’m going with!) Sometimes inside out makes me think of just being all turned around and not knowing what is going on.  I have felt like that lately.  I feel like thingsRead More →

This is it….my last post for my preview of Chicago Northwest Restaurant week (February 24-March 5, 2017). Technically, the event is 10 days so you will have a lot more time to add on to your own list of places you want to go. (Click here to see all of the participating restaurants.) The last place I want to preview for you, Chef Vince’s Zeal (680 Mall Drive, Schaumburg, IL) felt more like I didn’t discover a new restaurant but that I found a long lost family member…who knows how to cook really well…and has a restaurant. Chef Vince’s Zeal had the magic of takingRead More →

When do you realize that you are starting to get old? Is it a number that makes you old? 40? 50? 60? 70? Is it when you and your friends start every conversation with the weather and commentary on your aches and pains? Maybe it is when you start putting the word “the” before other nouns? (Example… The Cancer, The HBO, The Twitter.) I have my moments where I do something and then say, “Ready or not….here it comes…I’m getting old!”   I think the first big indicator for me has been my glasses or as I fondly call them…my old lady glasses. I can seeRead More →

Do you still make believe? Do you see yourself as a rock star when you are singing into your loofah in the shower? Do you put on a new outfit and walk down the hall like a supermodel? Maybe when you are training your puppy to sit you pretend to be a lion tamer in the circus. It doesn’t matter what you imagine it makes you happy. I like to pretend I have a restaurant. I am smart enough to know a REAL restaurant is a lot of work. It takes countless hours (and dollars) to make it successful. You need a good team ofRead More →

I’m a thief…a no good rotten thief!!! Now before you start looking at FBI posters for my picture, let me say what I’m guilty of. I steal from restaurants….kind of. You are probably saying “Barb, you can’t “kind of” steal. You either do it or you don’t!” Let me tell you what I steal before you throw me in the slammer to go live a life of commissary treats and pruno. (If you are unaware of pruno. It is a hooch made from fermenting fruits and very popular in prison. I learned of it from countless hours of watching the TV show Lockup!) It isn’tRead More →

Clothing. Who decided that we needed to wear clothing? We aren’t born that way. (If you think about it, you really can’t be created at all without some nudity involved.) Little kids seem to be content with walking around in the buff and there are parts of this world where indigenous nudity is the norm. So why do we do it? What are we hiding? And who decided what needed to be hid? For example, men, there is the obvious cover up spot….their, um, feet. Who wants to see those??? They aren’t very pretty, kind of big (hopefully) and sometimes the hair growth is weird.Read More →

When making dinner what guides you? Do pictures you see on the Internet influence you? Is it a recipe that one of your friends forwards you? Maybe it is as simple as having a regular rotation of meals in your house. For me, it is power of suggestion. I am starting to think I am really simple minded. (I know a few of you are saying to yourself “She is just starting to think that?”) If there is a conversation about food, I will end up making one of the dishes. This isn’t that unusual in my circle of friends. We all like food andRead More →

The other day on Felt Like a Foodie I kind of joked around about strippers. I meant no offense. We all know that it isn’t a job for everyone and I shouldn’t judge anyone.   (Unless your parents gave you a name like Candy Cane, Cinnamon or Sunshine, you really didn’t have a choice.) I do know that would not have been my career choice. If I had to go that route, I would have been a lady of the evening….in Italy. I came to this conclusion the other day when I made Spaghetti alla puttanesca. Loosely translated, it is the whore’s pasta. Rumor has itRead More →
