August is almost here and that means one thing to a lot of people….vacation.  Fortunately for me, a lot of my friends consider coming to my house a vacation!  (If you ever have seen my house, you would realize William Shatner couldn’t get them a great deal anywhere better so they had to come here.) Our guests this weekend were college friends of my husbands.  Our friend, Michelle, made a comment to me about my love of bacon.  I was shocked that I didn’t hide my love affair.  Was it the 3 Little Piggy Burger I made for dinner?  Or was it the extra baconRead More →

Everyone has a guilty food pleasure…..or two.  It usually is something that we know is bad for us but we indulge and eat it anyway.  One of my guilty pleasures is French fries.  I love to go on errands and grab some fries as my energy booster.  The thought of the salty starch combination makes my mouth water.  I’ve become the weird lady stuffing her face in a minivan at the local grocery store.  I know people see me indulging but I don’t care. (It’s not like people have cameras at their fingertips and can put me on the Internet.) Even when I’m at home,Read More →

I did something last night that I’ve never done before.  I was shocked at how much I enjoyed it.  It was sweet and tart all at the same time.   The best part was that it was a woman responsible for my pleasure!  I’m sure you have guessed by now, I now have new favorite lemonade. I went to dinner with three amazingly sweet women last night.  When the waiter asked for our drink orders, I asked for”fun” lemonade.  He told me that they didn’t have fun lemonade just the regular stuff.  (I don’t think he appreciated my wit.  He asked if we had any questionsRead More →

When I see it, I become distracted.  They come in various sizes and colors.  I’ve seen them long and thin and short and fat.  I’ll even admit that I just love to put my mouth on one.  So do you like fresh corn off the cob as much as I do? One of the best places to live in July is near a cornfield.  You can find the freshest corn in your neighbor’s backyard (get permission first), a farmer selling it off his truck or at an “honor” stand.  City people need to know that an “honor stand” is a card table in front ofRead More →

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream?  I’ve never fully understood that little saying.  Who screams for ice cream?  I know if I had ever screamed for ice cream my parents would not have rewarded me with it.  I would have been told I didn’t need anymore sugar and that I needed to simmer down. There are times meant for screaming like when you see a bug or you stub your toe or when your husband puts the dishes away wrong.  (Okay, I shouldn’t scream for that either but sometimes I slip up.  Sorry, Dear.)  But screaming for ice cream….that is justRead More →

Once upon a time, there were three little chefs who were ready to test their cooking skills in their own restaurant.  Before they went out on their venture, their mother said “Whatever you do, make the most unique burger so everyone keeps coming back because that is the only way you will survive in this economy.” The first little chef bought a pre-made pub burger that the store sold because that was the easiest way to serve the customers. The second little chef bought ground turkey because he thought people would eat more if they thought the meat was healthier. The third little chef decidedRead More →

Did your mom ever make a recipe that you didn’t care for as a kid but now as an adult you are kicking yourself for not eating it?  The dish that always comes to mind for me is my mom’s blueberry coffee cake. It really was a silly thing to dislike.  It was cake for goodness sake!  I just couldn’t get past those stinkin’ little blue balls.  I think I watched Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory one too many times and was afraid I would turn violet if I ate too many of them.  (The thought of having to be juiced still frightens me.)Read More →

A few years ago, I took a class on Thai cooking.  My main goal was to come out of the class with a masterful knowledge of Pad Thai, my favorite dish.  We don’t have anything close to Thai food in my small town and I really wanted to know how to satisfy my cravings. The other items on the class schedule were really of no interest to me especially the Tom Kha Gai (chicken galangal soup.) It is a coconut base soup.  I’m not a fan of coconut.  I think it was because Gilligan’s Island made it look very unappetizing to me.   (No offense, MaryRead More →
