Time of my life, those four words just kept running in my head.  Now many fans of 1980’s movies are thinking “Did Barb go dirty dancing again?”  Nope, but I think this foodie fun day felt almost as good.  (Why do food events always make me want to start singing and dancing?) On Monday, November 14, I had the luxury of going to the Food & Wine Entertaining Showcase at the Museum of Contemporary Art.   With 22 of Chicago leading chefs and an amazing array of wine and spirits, it is an event to mark on your calendar next year.  (I’ll give you a heads upRead More →

I hope all of you had a great holiday season.  I must apologize that I haven’t posted very much because I’ve been detained with my own festivities.  (Festivities meaning I am so bloated from eating too much that I can’t concentrate and am in a postprandial coma.) As I lie on my couch, I am working on my computer making a guideline for future posts so that I can be more focused.  I have gotten a lot of emails (okay, it’s only been about 6) with requests so I will make sure that I honor them in 2012. One particular email was received just this week. Read More →

Twas a few days before Christmas and I must confess My baking’s not done and my house is a mess My nights have been filled and I’ve been quite sick I haven’t given much thought to dear old St. Nick I started to worry about passing out treats To all of my neighbors who live on my street Cookbooks I searched for easy, simple food But nothing I found would suit my foul mood When out in the kitchen arose a loud clatter My recipe binder fell and started to splatter I sorted the papers with my OCD And all of a sudden it cameRead More →

One more week until Christmas….Yipppeee!  I am a big kid when it comes to this time of year.  I love the lights, decorations and yes, the gifts!  My husband is an awesome Santa and I’m not just buttering him up.  (But in case that will work….have I ever mentioned that he is the most wonderful, handsome man in the world?) So when I was driving the other day and heard the 12 days of Christmas, I instantly thought of him.   I started to ponder the meaning of the song and how I would react to the plethora of gifts required to fulfill that song.  (Yes,Read More →

Baking at Chopping Block

There are a lot of things I consider “foodie fun” such as trying a new restaurant, going to a tasting and finding a unique market.  There is one activity I really haven’t talked about yet and that is taking cooking classes. I know you are all thinking “Oh Barb, you are such a genius in the kitchen, why would you need a class?”  (Okay maybe not all of you are thinking that but humor me.)  I would love to say I know it all and can figure it out by reading a cookbook or magazine but alas, I just can’t do it on my own.Read More →

Cream cheese frosted maple cupcakes with bacon topping foodie recipe

‘Tis the season to bake or so that is what I am told but the big problem is that I really don’t enjoy baking.  I may have tried out for Masterchef but I’m no Masterbaker!  (I think that is a late night show on Cinemax.) I know my issue with baking is that you can’t really get a feel of how the finished product is going to taste until it is completely cooked.  (You can taste but it is like reading the last page of a novel before you officially start a book.  It may be interesting but it just isn’t right.)  I LOVE toRead More →

Part of being a “foodie” is taking risks.  Whether it is tasting an oddly named dish at a new restaurant or working to infuse new flavors, it is all a gamble on how it will turn out. This weekend I decided to take a risk, I tried out for a reality television show.  The show is called Masterchef.  If you are not familiar with the show, it is a reality cooking show that pits amateur cooks from around the country against each other.  Oh, did I forget to mention that Chefs Gordon Ramsay, Graham Elliot and Joe Bastianich were the judges? I had watched theRead More →
