Do you know how there is that thing? You know the thing that makes you ALWAYS think of someone else. It could be a cologne that the best smelling guy in college wore or an off the shoulder sweater your aunt liked. Maybe even the feel of a blanket that reminds you of your mom’s house. I started to think about this today because I bought a bag of limes and I thought of my dad. I don’t talk about him much in my posts because honestly we don’t talk. He isn’t a bad guy and I am far from a rotten daughter. There is noRead More →

This has been an interesting week to be on my sick-couch.  The news has been inundated with media people keeping an eye on the chimney on the roof of the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican. Watching a chimney for smoke does not really make for great entertainment UNLESS you start thinking about the cardinals inside the chapel. Does anyone really know what is going on in there?  Is it like Fight Club where what happens at the Vatican stays at the Vatican?  Is it all “Pope” talk or do they do other things?  For some reason I picture them all sitting around a bigRead More →

Boo!  Eeeek!  Halloween is next week and I’m receiving requests for some “spirits” to celebrate the day of the dead. Now those of you who REALLY know me, know I am a scaredy cat.  I still believe there is a monster in my closet and that there is someone under the bed trying to grab my ankles.  (I will give credit to my big sisters for scaring the hell out of me as a child.) Those of you who REALLY, REALLY know me know that I can’t handle my liquor.  Let’s put it this way, if I were a ghost I’d have to be CasperRead More →

Every now and then I get an email from a person asking if I could use more “prepared” items in my recipes.  I’ve gotten suggestions about potato buds (what part is the bud?) And hints about modern conveniences like pre-cooked bacon and dehydrated onions.  There are even stir-in mixes that can make your food taste like you are magically in a café in Paris.  (Okay, that was a little sarcastic and maybe a bit snooty, sorry.) I understand that everyone is busy.  I do things the “long” way because I have the time to do so.  Part of my joy in cooking is standing overRead More →

My life is full of executive decisions.  I am in charge the massive empire known as my household.  (Not really massive or empire-ish but I do live in a world of make believe half the time so play along with me.) The decisions that keep this well running machine going are numerous and at times overwhelming.  (Deciding where to grocery shop or what is for dinner can be very cumbersome.) There are days that I just want to throw in the towel and go back to a simpler life. (Living with my mom and having her do everything.)  But alas (you know this blog isRead More →

I am in love.  The kind of obsessive love that makes you think of only one thing.  It makes me all goofy inside.  The control this love has over my mind makes it hard for me to even think straight.  (And no I am not reading Fifty Shades of Grey.) I’ve tried to quench my desire for my new love in other ways but nothing seems to work.  I’m only rerouted for a moment or two and then I am back to thinking about my true longing.  It is the only way to satisfy my hot thirst as it overtakes my quivering body.  (Okay, IRead More →

In the year 1970, there were quite a few momentous events that took place in this world.   The first Earth Day was recognized.  (Hooray!)  The Beatles had their last number one song, The Long and Winding Road.  (Boo!)  I was born!  (Oh crud, now you all know my age!)  And the Shamrock Shake was invented! The Shamrock Shake?  Yep, the classic green shake that McDonald’s promotes only for a few months to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.  (Pretty clever how I diverted your attention from doing the math to figure out my age.) Now the original name was the Liquefied Leprechaun but that did not doRead More →

I did something last night that I’ve never done before.  I was shocked at how much I enjoyed it.  It was sweet and tart all at the same time.   The best part was that it was a woman responsible for my pleasure!  I’m sure you have guessed by now, I now have new favorite lemonade. I went to dinner with three amazingly sweet women last night.  When the waiter asked for our drink orders, I asked for”fun” lemonade.  He told me that they didn’t have fun lemonade just the regular stuff.  (I don’t think he appreciated my wit.  He asked if we had any questionsRead More →
