“Gooses! Geeses!  I want my geese to lay gold eggs for Easter.”  (Who knows where I am going with this one?) I was scrubbing potatoes today and all of a sudden was possessed by Veruca Salt from the 1971 movie, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. My original plan was just to have baked potatoes with our dinner tonight but then all of a sudden my inner Veruca came out and I was singing and dancing in the kitchen. “Potatoes.  Potah-toes. I want a potato crusted in salt with my dinner meal….that’s the deal. And by the way…. I want bacon.  There is no fakin’Read More →

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas (or Hanukah or Kwanza or whatever excuse you need to be merry).  I personally thought that the world really pushed the winter holidays on us a little too quickly. But now that Thanksgiving is over, I am one of those people freaking out about holiday shopping.  I don’t have a lot of people to buy for (all of my personalities do a grab bag) but I do put a lot of thought in my gifts.  (Nothing like a Chia Pet!) One question I am frequently asked is for suggestions for gifts for that family member who lovesRead More →

I officially have been going to food events for over year.  And there is one consistent thread that runs through each event…my mouth waters. Whether it is the rich aromas that roam through the halls or my first view of a perfectly plated dish of food…my mouth waters. When I see the chefs walking in their crisp, white coats…my mouth waters.  (Um, wait, I’m not sure I should admit that.) As I walked into Merchandise Mart in Chicago  last night for the Sixth Annual CHILL Event, my mouth watered.  How could it not?  40 of Chicago’s top chefs and 150 Premium wines all brought togetherRead More →

I don’t know what it is about the Food and Wine Chef Showcase in Chicago that makes me smile, it just does.  Not just any smile, but a smile that makes my cheeks hurt. It is the kind of smile that resonates through your whole body and makes you put a spring in your step.  The smile that almost makes you weepy because you can’t believe you are so happy.  It is the smile you get when you are just loving every second of an experience. Last night I had the pleasure of smiling for about 3 hours at the Museum of Contempory Art.  SmilingRead More →

It is two weeks before Thanksgiving…that means it is time for a list!  I love making lists more than any normal person should.  I make lists for food, contents of the fridge and people who make me mad.  (I also hold grudges but that is another blog.  PS Dave G., you are no longer on this list!  ha ha) Now as much as I razz my Mother in law, I have to actually give her a public compliment (gasp!)….she had her Thanksgiving delegation done over a week ago.  (This is where I would normally insert some funny derogatory MIL comment but I am being niceRead More →

I can’t believe it is already November.  It is one of the busiest months of the year with the election tomorrow, Food and Wine Chef Showcase and CHILL next week.  (And for those of you who have asked which Presidential candidate I am supporting….I can only give you a hint…it is a man.) November is also home to the biggest food event of the season….Thanksgiving!!!! I love when people talk to me about this holiday.   Some people go into long history lessons about Plymouth Rock and the Pilgrims.  (I actually know some of this history because the Brady Bunch AND the Waltons did an episodeRead More →
