Who do you love? I kept hearing the chorus of this rock n’ roll classic over and over in my head on from last Saturday and Sunday at the 11thannual BON APPÉTIT Presents Chicago Gourmet.  (A little fun fact….did you know Bo Diddley wrote “Who do you love” in the 1950’s?) Walking around this year’s event in Millennium Park, guests weren’t only excited about eating (my food favorites were written about earlier this week) but there is a “groupie” kind of mentality of getting to meet some of your favorite chefs who you love face to face. Whether you were searching for chefs seen onRead More →

I can’t say I’m a “Party like a rock star” kind of gal but I felt that way this morning after spending the weekend enjoying the 11thannual Bon Appetit Presents Chicago Gourmet. Taking place in Chicago’s very own Millennium Park September 29-30, the stage was set for an epic weekend where chefs were the rock stars and the food topped the charts. If you haven’t picked up on it yet, this year’s theme was “Rock the Fork”.  Chicago Gourmet had multiple “rockin’ events leading up to the big weekend with an Italian feast on the Symphony Center Stage, Blues, Booze & Bites at River Roast, aRead More →

If you have been a long time reader of Felt Like a Foodie, you know this past weekend (September 23-24, 2017) was the event that a lot of us live for every year.  Chicago Gourmet, created by the Illinois Restaurant Association 10 years ago, showcases the very best of  Chicago’s culinary world in the beautiful setting of Millenium Park.  Having been recnently named the Restaurant City of the Year by sponsor Bon Appétit magazine, I knew this was going to be a delicious weekend. I not only learned where I want to eat this next year but how I may want to incorporate some of theRead More →

One of my favorite things about the 9th year of Chicago Gourmet is the fact that I learned so much. By tasting so many wonderful dishes, my mind was opened even more on how to intermingle texture, flavors and cultures. (In case you missed it, click here to see some of my favorite bites this year.) The education goes beyond “just” eating for hours. Over the years, I have enjoyed numerous enlightening cooking demonstrations. (I think there were 23 this year not including the wine seminars!) This year I went to five of them. I thought instead of writing a long, drawn out post onRead More →

Art.  I am not sure who said “Art is subjective, and means something different to every single person on earth” but I think the same can be said about food.  You can see artistry in everything from how a top chef plates a meal to the beauty of a rustic family tomato sauce cooking on the stove.  One person can appreciate the craftsmanship of a piece of sushi while another sees the same beauty in a hamburger with all the fixings.  We eat with our eyes and hopefully our palates can taste the artistry and love that goes into every bite. With that said, this year’s ninthRead More →

Did you ever go to an amusement park as a kid? Do you remember that feeling of excitement and joy when you walk through the gate? How about the anticipation before you even get there? I think that sums up how I feel each year at Chicago Gourmet. (“Produced by the Illinois Restaurant Association, title sponsor Bon Appétit magazine and presenting sponsor Southern Wine & Spirits of Illinois, Chicago Gourmet 2015 is one of the nation’s largest and most celebrated culinary events. “) As I walked into Millennium Park this weekend, I had to just take a moment and gasp. It was like a wonderland of 150Read More →

As I promised last year, I was going to let you all know about some food event opportunities BEFORE they happen in case you were interested in attending. With that said, I wanted to remind you that Chicago Gourmet is in less than two weeks and tickets are still available.  This is a great event for Chicagoans (obviously) but I encourage my small town readers to plan a trip to the city for this one!  You won’t regret it!  (Or ever forget it!) Chicago Gourmet is special to me because it was my first BIG gourmet event and it introduced me to so many fabulousRead More →
